A typical night at a Louisiana casino ended with police arresting one of its patrons. On Thursday, Feb. 1, police were called to the casino/hotel after security discovered a child alone in a hotel room. The child's mother was located and is now facing criminal charges, and may even lose her parental privileges. With so much on the line, an experienced criminal defense attorney may be able to help her as she fights for the best outcome possible.
According to a recent news report, security at the Belle of Baton Rouge found the child at approximately 5:30 a.m. and promptly alerted police to the situation. While investigating the incident, security footage allegedly shows a 31-year-old woman leaving the hotel room and heading into the casino in the middle of the night. Police located her still in the casino.
The accused is said to have admitted leaving her child alone, knowing that she shouldn't have. She and her 3-year-old daughter were transported to the Second District police station where she was booked into custody and the child was placed in the care of the Department of Children and Family Services. The accused has been charged with child desertion.
No parent is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. Unfortunately, some mistakes can cause individuals to lose their rights to their children. There is a lot at stake in this particular case. With the assistance of a criminal defense attorney, the accused can make informed decisions as she fights her case in the Louisiana criminal court system.
