Louisiana goes to battle with synthetic marijuana

Like other states, Louisiana has tried to outlaw synthetic marijuana. The man-made drug is known by many names, including potpourri, aromatic sachet, incense, spice and K2, among others. The state has classified the drug as a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, but since the drug is synthetic, producers only have to tweak the recipe slightly to make it legal again.

New Louisiana DUI laws signed by Governor Bobby Jindal

A string of six proposals that enhance penalties for drinking and driving have been signed into law by Governor Bobby Jindal. In addition to boosting DUI penalties, the six new laws crack down on repeat offenders and give police officers multiple ways to test suspects for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Baton Rouge store owners indicted on money laundering charges

A 2009 investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration on a 38-year-old Baton Rouge resident and a 29-year-old resident of New Orleans has resulted in an indictment on conspiracy to launder money against them and two additional suspects. A fifth person was also charged in a separate indictment on conspiracy to possess and distribute a controlled substance known as MDMA or ecstacy, in addition to the money laundering charges.

Louisiana Governor hopes to combat street gangs and sex crimes

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has signed new legislation aimed at cracking down on crimes committed by sex offenders and street gangs. The new legislation requires sex offenders to immediately update any changes to their online identifier information. Prior to this new legislation a sex offender was only required to provide certain information when they register with law enforcement agencies. Information required, includes residential address, vehicle license plates and their online identifiers.
